Khloe Kardashian revealed Caitlyn Jenner will not be joining the rest of the family for Thanksgiving. The 31-year-old reality star opened up about the reality show family’s holiday plans on The Ellen DeGeneres Show airing on Monday.
She said their 66-year-old ‘dad’ will be unable to attend their Thanksgiving festivities due to other obligations but will be there for Christmas. Khloe explained: ‘She’s still part of our family. It’s still our Dad, we say, which I know is confusing to some people, but that’s how we know her.
‘And she’s not gonna be with us on Thanksgiving because she’s working, but she’ll be with us for Christmas, for sure.’
The whole brood would get together – including Caitlyn’s (then Bruce) children from before he met Kris Jenner – for the family photo, with the last one releasing in 2013. The chat show host Ellen, 57, stuck to querying about the reality star’s relationship with Caitlyn as she said she watched a recent episode of the E! reality show in which Khloe struggled with her father figure Bruce Jenner transitioning to a woman. ‘Well I had a hard time because I found out on camera, like while we were filming,’ Khloe said. Khloe said her family asked Bruce about the rumors he was transitioning, but were stonewalled.
‘And he kept telling us one thing, but really he knew he was transitioning and wouldn’t be honest with us. So we felt like we were kind of the last to know so that was hard for us,’ she said.
Khloe said the transition was particularly hard for her because she ‘defended him for so long or whatever.’ The E! network star said she’s since overcome the initial difficulty and came to understand that ‘Bruce is totally separate than Caitlyn’. Khloe said that Caitlyn assured her children she would always be their dad, but they were all moving in uncharted territory. ‘So I’m sure he probably hoped maybe glimmers of Bruce would be there. But if your soul really wanted to be a female this whole time I can’t expect that. ‘So now that we know that he’s, Caitlyn, is not Bruce. They’re two separate people and kind of mourn the loss of Bruce [but] now I’m fine with everything,’ Khloe said.
Khloe also said that she doesn’t seen any glimmers of Bruce in Caitlyn. The chat show appearance comes after the airing of the Keeping Up With The Kardashians season 11 premiere which aired on Sunday and featured what happened after Caitlyn made her first public appearance on the ESPY Awards and got tearful as she talked about getting ‘so much support’ from her family. The episode showed that there was actually plenty of tension surrounding that groundbreaking appearance to the point that the former gold medallist even stopped talking to his daughters. The reality TV hit showed that behind the scenes the Kardashian sisters had all been hesitant about even attending the ceremony, with them finally deciding to go in support of sisters Kylie and Kendall.
