Jubin Nautiyal hopes to work with Rahman soon

Jubin Nautiyal-2“Zindagi kuch toh bata” hitmaker Jubin Nautiyal feels blessed to have worked with popular composers like Pritam Chakraborty and Jeet Gannguli, but he dreams of singing to the tunes of music maestro A.R. Rahman someday.

Nautiyal, who made his debut in the music industry with the song “Ek mulakaat” from the 2014 film “Sonali Cable”, says his journey has been educative so far, courtesy composers that he has teamed up with.

“I feel blessed. Every year has been educative for me. I am getting to work with such popular musicians. It’s very cool. I hope I get to work with Rahman saab soon. I’ve met him once,” Nautiyal said.

“He told me that he loved the quality of my voice, but I was very young at that point of time. He told me to give it some time,” he added.

Years went by and when he turned 23, he moved base to Mumbai to fulfil his dream to be a singer.

“I never take it like I am a film singer. I sing for serials, ads and everything because it is a song by the end of the day,” said the 27-year-old, who has sung for TV shows like “Ek Duje Ke Vaaste” and “Dahleez”.

For him, the journey to Bollywood was not a struggling one.

“It was not difficult. I didn’t take it as a struggle. I just thought that I had to grow as a musician. I have learnt that by the end of the day, no matter who is writing the song or composing or producing it, it doesn’t matter.

“What matters is that it reaches the right people. Now, I know my voice better and I can express myself better and emote better while singing,” said the singer, who has sung “Zinda hota mein (reprise) in “7 Hours To Go!”.

His name often gets associated with melodious and romantic numbers. Is he okay with the tag?

“I am perfectly fine with it. I have a specific set of rules. I am not comfortable with vulgar lyrics. Apart from that, if it’s a party song or any other song, I can do it. I can make you cry with my voice or make you laugh,” he said.

Among the younger generation, singer Armaan Malik is doing wonders by giving back-to-back hits like “Bol do na zara” and “Naina”. Does he feel threatened by him?

“No. He is a very talented guy. He’s very young and competing with mainstream big singers… that’s amazing. I get threatened by my previous song. I feel that I have to outdo my previous song. That’s what helps me to grow and keeps me in check,” said Nautiyal.
